Recovery:

The total recovery time needed lasts anywhere from ten days to a few weeks. During the first few days of recovery, ice packs and medication for minor pain and swelling and bruising around the eyes are recommended by Dr Schmidt. Any swelling will last for a least a few days, but should dissipate in a week or two. Likewise with any bruises or discoloration. Bruising can easily be covered up with makeup after 3 or 4 days and in the meantime hidden behind sunglasses.
In addition, a patient's vision may be affected slightly during the recovery period; blurriness, sensitivity to contrasts in light intensity, and increased dryness are not uncommon, and may be ameliorated with eye drops and dark sunglasses. After a few weeks the rejuvenating results of the surgery will become even more noticeable, and the eyelids will appear tighter and firmer, giving the patient a relaxed and more youthful appearance.

Typical Patient Profile:

The best candidates for eye lift surgery are those who are looking to generally improve the appearance of their eyes and whose eyelid skin is elastic enough to respond positively to surgery. Dr Schmidt stresses the importance for any prospective patient to have a realistic and healthy attitude about the extent of change an eyelift can offer, and how it can improve the general appearance of the lids and under-ocular areas. An eyelift, however, is not designed alone to improve the appearance of crow's feet or the height or look of the eyebrow, and Dr Schmidt may recommend other procedures or BOTOX be added for best results. In any event, Dr Schmidt will be happy to meet with you and determine the best way to deal with your concerns.
