Facelift/Rhytidectomy:
As you age, your face noticeably
changes, reflecting the growing effects of gravity's constant pull
and a rapid decline is the
skin's elasticity. One's chin may begin to look less prominent due
to
growing pockets of fat, and
stress lines may form around the mouth and nose. In general, the
face
begins to sag, giving you an
older, puffy look that may impact your self-esteem or
self-satisfaction.
While there is no cure for the
inevitable loss of youthfulness and vigor, there is a way for Dr
Schmidt
to at least slow it and reverse
some of the more extreme effects.
A facelift offers a chance to recapture some of the lost beauty of
one's youth, and is a procedure
that is rapidly gaining in
popularity. If you are someone who is the age range of 30-70,
and you
will want to see Dr Schmidt for
a facelift consults.
It is important to keep in mind that when discussing a facelift, Dr
Schmidt may recommend that
you consider other augmenting
procedures that you may not have considered. It is not uncommon to
incorporate such techniques as a
eyelift, neck lift, cheek lift, brow lift or liposuction in concert
with a
general facelift. This is because one
must consider the enhancement of the entire face, and the
need to balance the overall
improvement such that one area of the face does not stand out in
harsh
contrast with areas unaffected by
surgery. Dr Schmidt will be sure to discuss your options regarding
facelift surgery and accompanying
procedures in depth and detail, and will listen to your concerns
regarding facelift surgery.
Procedure:
The procedure for each patient's
facelift will thus vary according to the exact combination of
operations that will be involved.
What follows is a description of each procedure associated with
facelifts along with a description of
a facelift operation (rhytidectomy) itself. |

A
Neck lift is the most common procedure Dr Schmidt
performs along with a facelift. A neck lift involves
the raising and tightening of the neck's muscles and the firming up
of the skin. Fatty tissue may also be
removed during the procedure to give the patient a more shapely and
slender neck as well as reclaiming
a sharp jaw line.
A
Cheek lift, also know as a mid-facelift, is a
procedure Dr Schmidt uses to address some concerns that
general facelifts do not necessarily address. Primarily, cheek
lifts focus on improving the area around the
center of the face, including the nose, upper mouth, any bags or
sunken areas underneath the eyes, and
the cheekbones. During the procedure, the muscles and underlying
fat of the middle part of the face are
repositioned to restore fullness and a strong outline to the
cheeks, creases and deep folds around the
nose and mouth are tightened, bags under the eyes are smoothed out,
and the face is given a more heart
shaped, smooth, and healthy appearance. Incisions for this
operation are generally within the hairline
behind the temple.

A
Facelift, is an
operation designed by Dr Schmidt for you to improve the general
appearance of the face,
with the best effects occurring in the lower part of the
face. The jaw line, especially, is heightened through
tightening of facial muscles and tissues and the removal or
sculpting of fat. The operation itself involves
one incision made around in the hairline and edging around
the ear and behind the earlobe. The skin is
then gently lifted from the underlying layer of fat and
muscle so that the muscles may be tightened, by
Dr Schmidt and any fat deposits removed or shifted and
re-suspended into new areas to affect different
areas of the face. Once this is complete, the skin is then
repositioned over the newly affected muscles
and fat, any extra skin is removed, and the incision is
closed with well hidden stitches.
A
Minilift, is slightly smaller operation designed by
Dr Schmidt to primarily improve the jaw line, and the
fold around the mouth. It has many other names such as the S and
Yuppie Lift. This procedure differs from
the facelift as it has a smaller incision. Dr Schmidt usually makes
an incision in front of the ear up to the
area of the sideburn. This incision may be extended into the
hairline for some patients. The skin is then
lifted and the fatty and muscular tissue can then be removed
shifted or r-suspended depending on the
patient's needs. Only a small amount of excess skin need be trimmed
and the incision is closed with a
small, we-hidden suture. There is only a small amount of swelling
and virtually no bruising for most of Dr
Schmidt's patients.
