Recovery:
On average, total recovery time takes less than two weeks. During this time, patients may experience a lingering soreness, bruising and fatigue. Dr Schmidt usually advises that strenuous activities like exercise be avoided during this period, however, normal activity such as school and work may be resumed within the first week.
Typical Patient Profile:
One feature that makes this procedure unique is that it is performed by Dr Schmidt across age groups, from children to fully-grown adults. This is because the ears are mostly grown in by the age of four. It is actually better to have this procedure done as early as possible as younger cartilage is more flexible and pliable, plus the psychosocial impact of the surgery is much stronger and more positive the earlier the otoplasty is performed. Dr Schmidt would be glad to discuss this procedure with patients of any age.
