Surgery For Men:

Liposuction For
Men:
Men have special concerns when it comes
to plastic surgery; indeed, their needs and goals are
usually far different from
women's, and there are noted physical differences in male skin
thickness
and elasticity, facial
structure, and body structure that require special attention from
the physician.
Currently, more and more men of
all ages and socioeconomic strata are using cosmetic surgery to
improve their looks, and Dr
Schmidt is more than pleased to offer his skills to this growing
segment
of clientele.

One of the procedures gaining in popularity among men is
liposuction, which in actuality is usually
more effective with men than with
women due to men's greater skin elasticity. Liposuction is designed
to remove those pockets of fat that
affect specialized areas of the body. It is not a treatment for
general
obesity, or for the removal of
cellulite. Some of the more common areas targeted by this surgery in
men include fatty deposits in the
jowls, flanks (love handles), and abdomen. Liposuction can also be
used as apart of a concert of
treatments to reduce the effects of gynecomastia.
Procedure:
In order to remove fat cells, it is
necessary to make a small incision into the skin. Through this
incision,
a handheld tool know as cannula is
inserted that can access sub-dermal fat deposits. The cannula is
then used in concert with a vacuum
pump and the vigorous motions of the surgeon to remove the fate
cells. The procedure takes, in its
entirety from thirty minutes to a few hours, depending on the
extensiveness of the operation.
Liposuction is usually handled on an outpatient basis, and is
performed
mainly with local anesthesia. |

Recovery:
Recovery for liposuction varies on a series of factors: the
complexity and extent of the procedure, the
elasticity of the patient's
skin, and the patient's age. In general, the majority of patients
return to work
within a few days, and may
resume vigorous activity in a few weeks. Soreness, tenderness, and a
tingling sensation during the
fist few days of recovery is common, and may be treated with
prescription
medications. During this period
it may also be recommended that the patient wear a special
conforming garment to help mold
the skin. Scarring is generally light and fades with time.
Typical Patient Profile:
Liposuction should not be viewed as a quick way to lose
unwanted weight. It must be considered as
a technique to slim down
problem areas of the body that linger or do not seem to improve
after the
implementation of a rigorous
diet and exercise regimen. For men, liposuction is often performed
in
middle age; however, it is not
uncommon for men in their late 20s and 30s to seek out liposuction
as
a way to help meet their
expectations for their body's contours.
