Recovery:
Facelifts are a rather complex procedure and do require a recovery time of a few weeks to a few months depending on the extensiveness of the surgery. For the first few days, antibiotics and pain medication will be prescribed for accompanying aches and tenderness. Swelling, discoloration, and minor scarring will accompany the surgery, but will fade away gradually. The minor swelling and bruising that persists after the first can usually be camouflaged with makeup. Patients may experience a general fatigue during this first period, and it is recommended that exercise be avoided for a period of one to tow months.

The next few weeks are marked by waiting for the surgery's results to develop fully. There may be lingering sensitivity in the skin and it is advised that patients avoid prolonged exposure of their faces to the elements. Results may vary, but in general, full results should become evident within a month or two.

Typical Patient Profile:

The popularity of facelifts is growing, and patient's range anywhere from their early 30s to their middle 70s. Whatever the patient's age, it is important that she be in good health and also have a solid bone structure and healthy skin.  It is also important that candidates have a healthy, realistic attitude about what a facelift can do for one's appearance and self-esteem; it is a procedure to recapture some lost youthfulness and augment one's facial appearance, not perfect it.

As with any surgery there is a risk of complications. Dr Schmidt makes sure to discuss these issues with each patient to determine if they are ready and make a good candidate for having a facelift. If you believe that a facelift may be for you, please contact Dr Schmidt.
